Milestones

  • Writing Competition:  In 1983, Lawrence Darmani won First Prize in the Africa Step Magazine Writing Competition, with a personal experience short story. 
  • Commonwealth Writers' Prize: Lawrence Darmani's first novel, Grief Child, won the Common Writers' Prize for First Book, Africa Region, in 1992.  At the award programme in Toronto, Canada, the judges mentioned the novel's spiritual emphasis as the forces of darkness and light struggle to claim the life of the protagonist. 
  • Christian Writers Conference:  At the Christian Writers Conference in 2010 in California, USA, Lawrence Darmani received a Training Award from the conference organisers for his ministry in consistently providing training to writers in Africa and elsewhere for many years. 
  • Media Associates International:  At the international literature conference of Media Association International (MAI), LittWorld 2012, at Brackenhurst, Kenya, 2012, MAI presented to Lawrence Darmani a Distinguished Training Award for over three decades of training writers. "To God be the glory!" says Lawrence Darmani, "for enabling me to make a contribution in Christian literature writing, production, and the sharing of writing experiences and skill."
